Water filtration systems - Which type?
Water filtration systems are designed for treating different sources and quality of input water. Waco systems, supplied by HIQ use three main types of filtration Ultra Fine (UF), Nano technology and Reverse Osmosis (RO).
Ultra Fine (UF) Water filtration
The UF filtration is used when the quality of water is already quite good. This is normally found when the water supplied to your property or location has already been filtered by the main water supplier or there is another system between the source of water and your supply. For example a condo building or office block may have a central reverse osmosis system. Generally Manila area has source water that is suitable for UF water filtration, but the water quality should still be checked beforehand. UF filters have membrane with pore sizes in the range of 0.03 to 0.05 micron typically remove high molecular-weight substances, colloidal materials, and organic and inorganic polymeric molecules, bacteria except minerals.
Nano Technology Water Filtration
Nano Technology is a more recent water filtration development. Similar to UF but the Nano filter is equipped with a special kind of plain film having 95% pores regularly made on it. Its pore size of 0.01~0.03um can endure the water pressure of 20kg, blocking the in-flow of the various germs. One additional advantage of Nano over UF is that it can be effective at softening hard water. Nano is readily available through Waco Philippines.
Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water filtration
Reverse Osmosis (RO) water filtration uses a very fine membrane and normally requires a pump to push the water through the membrane. The systems also release waste water and the amount can be high depending on the quality of source water. An RO system is required when the source water is lower quality, or is deep well or similar. Systems can be very large and the technology also used in desalination plants, processing sea water. HIQ is located in Binan, where we we recommend RO filtration is necessary.
Water quality testing
A basic test for your quality of water supplied to your property is to make a measurement of the Total Dissolved Solids, known as the TDS. This is measured in parts per million (ppm). A TDS tester is required to do this test. Before installation of a WACO system we would request a water quality report or conduct a site visit to test the water. The guideline applied is if the TDS is 0-150 then use UF with or without softener, 151-190 use NANO technology and if the reading is above 191 use Reverse Osmosis
